CRM 2011, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, MSCRM 2011, Save Excel File with any Special character Delimiter
Hello Everyone,
Recently I had a requirement to convert my Excel data file to CSV format with delimiter as ‘~‘ also known as Tilde. After searching for various options I came across a very simple Setting in the System by the help of which now onwards the Excel data file can be converted to CSV with any type of desired Special Character.
To change the Setting of the System you need to Navigate to:
1> Start -> Control Panel -> Region and Language
2> Under the Formats tab click on Additional Settings
3> Under Numbers tab you can see List Separators option.
4> Change the Value with any of your desired Special Character.
5> Apply to the change and you are Done.
Now Open any Excel file and Save as CSV format.
Now Open the saved CSV file, also with Notepad and you will see the change.Ā
Hope this little System Setting Changes will save you lot of Hard Work and Time for finding the Solutions for the Same.Ā Previously I have also written a post on Saving Excel as Semicolon Delimiter along with Unicode Encoding
Thanks !!!

That works on one-character delimiters, but what about two characters? I need to save a spreadsheet with a “->” delimiter. Any ideas how to do that?

Hi Brad,
Sorry I’ve never came any such scenarios in my work so far. But do share your results if you find a solution to it, so that others can be benefited from it as well.
Thanks.

Hello. Incredibly helpful, it works flawlessly, many thanks for this!
Just a question – I tried to integrate the “save .csv” routine in a macro and it reverted to saving with a comma (,) instead of a semicolon (;) – so a different behaviour than when I save the file “live”.
Any idea?

Well done – it works perfectly. Just a question: I tried to incorporate this in a macro and it keeps saving with a comma, even though when performed manually, it saves with a semicolon. Any idea?
Thanks again for a great knowledge resource.

Any advice on how to make this work on a Mac?

Thank you very much for giving me a hint with that! I spent ages to understand why saved as CVS files are not readable for one of the program I use.
